12 Step Programs

Recovery and Support

This web site is intended to supply information and support to people in recovery and those seeking recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. Many other problems go along with these addictions and we hope that we might be able to be of asistance to those folks as well. There are many tools that are used in recovery with links to some over on the left. We will do our best to point folks in the right direction for ansewers that they may have.

Most of us that come to this site are in 12 Step Programs and follow the guidelines set forth in the respective programs Books (Big Book of AA, Basic Text of NA, etc.). There are many other 12 step programs available for specific addictions, and most of the information here can be applied to any of them.

We have message boards and forums for discussions and daily communication and hope you will join in. Recovery from addictions is about learning to deal with day to day life without the use of mind altering substances. Discussion boards can be used to get alternatives to problems you may have, and see how others have handled the same problems with success. This is what we call sharing ESH (Experience, Strength and Hope).

For me, as I can only speak for myself, these type of discussion boards have helped me immensly the last 7 years. I've posted problems I've had on these boards and have received replys from others that gave me hope, alternatives and solutions to these problems. I've learned to journalize my daily thoughts and actions and then go back days, weeks, months and even years later to find out that I've made a lot of progress during those times in my life.

I cannot say that I am recovered, but I can say that I am better. I live a much better life without alcohol and drugs than I did when I was "out" there. I was "out" there for over 35 years, abusing myself and everyone I came in contact with. In the end, I had nothing, no home, no family, no friends, no job and no dignity. It took a lot to get me clean and sober, and if you continue to read here on the site and boards, you'll read what I did to accomplish this. I didn't do anything that you can't do yourself to change your life. Well, maybe one thing, I didn't pick up the first drink or drug today, for almost 10 years worth of today's. One day at a time.
